Toronto Shooting: Two killed, 12 injured at Danforth Neighbourhood

On Sunday, July 22nd, an individual named Faisal Hussain, opened fire in the public around numerous bars and restaurants, resulting in this chaotic and violent event. Two people were killed while 12 were injured in the neighbourhood of Danforth, Toronto. The two deaths were a 10-year-old girl and an 18-year-old female named Julianna Kozis and Reese Fallon respectively. The motive of this violence is still being determined as he did not have any previous criminal records, but his family such as his older brother, Farad Hussain, was involved in a street gang and weapons in the past. Initially, it was stated that Hussain exchanged gun fire with officers and died, but later sources had figured that he killed himself.

     Upon this violent incident, ISIS took responsibility for it, but the Toronto Police mentions there is no evidence to support it. Further investigations have started to take place, but the Toronto Police released to the public that it will take a significant amount of time to determine the motive of this shooting rampage. Furthermore, Hussain’s family claimed that Hussain struggled a lot with mental health, he struggled with psychosis and depression throughout the whole course of his life. He consulted with mental health professionals, various medications including therapy but unfortunately all these options were not viable and effective to curing his mental health problems. Hussain’s family along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other celebrities such as Patrick Adams sent their deep condolences to families affected by this tragic event.
